Former Cleveland Cavalier’s player LeBron James spent New Year’s Eve with his family, enjoying dinner at a nightclub in South Beach. But he made the night memorable by proposing to his long-time girlfriend Savannah Brinson. The two have two children, Lebron Jr. (Age 7) and Bryce (Age 4), both of whome were able to be there for the proposal and who, when Savannah said yes, were picked up and spun around by their father in a joyful celebration of the moment.
Fellow Miami Heat player Dwayne Wade was hosting the party as a birthday party for James, who celebrated his 27th birthday on the 30th. Sixty friends and family members, including fellow Heat player Chris Bosh and Queen Latifah attended the party.
This sweet and down-to-earth news sounds like a more authentic celebration than the way some other celebrities rung in the new year—It’s reported that Kim Kardashian was paid over $600,000 just to attend one party.
Other celebrities also celebrated engagements over the holiday, including Aretha Franklin, who is now anticipating marrying her “longtime friend and confidant” William ‘Willie’ Wilkerson next summer.
How did you celebrate the New Year? It’s one of the most popular times of the year for engagements, even for the rest of us—not just NBA stars and music icons.
The holidays are imminent. Whether you’re looking for one more thing to throw in the stocking before Christmas day or looking for a great gift for the last day of Hanukah, tickets to sporting events, concerts, Broadway plays or comedy shows are a personal, meaningful gift that. Even if you’re just planning to travel soon and want to catch a show with someone you love, giving tickets as a holiday, birthday or graduation gift is fun and special.
Know a guy who wouldn’t miss a single game but would love to be closer to the court than on his couch? As the college basketball season kicks off, now is the perfect time to score some NCAA basketball tickets to a home or away game played by his favorite team. Give them now and let him enjoy the thrill of a live game.
Almost everybody loves some genre or artist, and concert tickets are a great way to go above and beyond the typical iTunes giftcard or compact disk stocking stuffer. Whether it’s your sister who loves pop artists like Katy Perry or your aunt who would love to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra, concert tour tickets are an easy to mail, easy to give gift that will not go unappreciated.
If your dad’s not a music guy, why not send him to see a laugh-inducing comedy show by classic comedians Jerry Seinfeld or Robin Williams? It can be an evening of fun that he’ll never forget, but it won’t break the bank and it won’t get re-gifted. Perfect!
And, of course, there’s Broadway tickets—perfect in combination with a trip to New York or a weekend getaway with your significant other, Broadway tickets are timeless way to say you care, and a breathtaking way to spend an evening. Shows like Wicked, Jersey Boys, The Book of Mormon and Billy Elliot are being talked about everywhere you turn. Isn’t it your turn to take someone you love to see one of the most-talked about Broadway shows playing right now? And that, of course, is the best part of gifting tickets…
…you should probably just get one for yourself, too!
Football is a great American tradition, but it’s also become a staple of many families’ holiday seasons, almost synonymous with the Thanksgiving holiday. If you ask an American what they plan to do for Thanksgiving, they’re likely to mention turkey and football—playing in the backyard, watching after the meal, or both.
Just as the beginning of football season becomes a staple of the back-to-school excitement, watching the game is part of the thrill of the Thanksgiving holiday. Even though we’re all watching different games as we gather on different days in different regions, the sentiment is the same—gathering with family members and friends we love for a special day and gathering together as fans to root for our team on their special day. Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and celebration—and nothing could go better with a good game of football.
Ohio State and Michigan State Fans spend the whole year trash talking each other and getting pumped up in preparation for the big game the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The rivalry can get pretty serious, but even diehard fans aren’t beyond using the game as a way to help others—Michigan State University and Ohio State University host a blood drive in conjunction with The American Red Cross every year called the “Blood Battle” where Michigan students face off with Buckeyes to see which campus can donate the most blood to the Red Cross blood bank.
So, whether it’s bringing families together to watch the big game or inspiring loyal students to donate blood, Thanksgiving is a great time of year for football to remind us of the most important things in life. Not a fan of the game? That’s okay… just enjoy the mashed potatoes and bask in the team spirit that everyone else carries around this time of year… but be careful, fan fever is awfully contagious!
Why does Cleveland stay loyal to the Browns? That’s a question for the ages, but the simple answer might be that they remember the way the Browns used to play and continue to hope for a triumphant return of the Browns in a stunning winning streak like the team enjoyed back in the middle of the 1900’s. It would seem a long lost history, but to Browns fans, it’s worth clinging to. Apparently.
Cleveland loves the Browns so much that in the late 90’s the city shut down other publicly financed programs in the arts in order to fund the building of an entirely new stadium, now known as the Cleveland Browns Stadium, with an expanded “Dawg Pound” section (the bleachers where the most rabid—pardon the pun—fans cheer for their team, not matter how pitiful the performance is) and a claim that the new stadium would grow the city’s economy and send the team skyrocketing to success.
Which never happened, but that’s okay.
This season, the team has enjoyed only three wins out of their nine games, but the fans keep coming. Why? Because Cleveland is fiercely loyal to their team. If anything saves the Browns, it will be the fan power propelling them toward just a few more touchdowns per game.
There’s a video that’s been circulating that really drive home the entire relationship Clevelanders have with their team. In this clip, Clevelander Mike Polk delivers the most viral sports-comedy monologue of the season.
Do you agree? Is the Browns Stadium a “factory of sadness?”
Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez III will fight for the WBO Welterweight Championship. Currently Pacquiao holds the belt, but Marquez hopes to seek revenge and grasp the coveted belt.
Manny Pacquiao, nicknamed “Pac-Man”, fights out of Manila and brings a 53-3-2 record with 38 knockouts. Pacquiao stands 5′ 6.5″ and has a 67″ reach. He is the currently rated the number one best boxer in the world by just about everyone.
Juan Manuel Marquez, nicknamed “Dinamita”, fights out of Mexico City and brings a 53-5-1 record with 39 knockouts. Marquez stands 5′ 7″ and also has a 67″ reach. He is a three division world champion and has won eight world titles in three weight classes.
This is the third time these two boxers have fought. In the first fight, Pacquiao knocked Marquez down three times in the very first round. Marquez showed how much heart he had by getting up and winning many later rounds. The fight ended in a draw but had its own controversy. A judges scoring error cost Paquiao the victory.
The second fight was an all-out war, with both men sustaining cuts, but Pacquiao managed to pull out a slim victory. Marques has definitely earned the right for a third fight against Pacquiao, as both of the first two fights were very close. This will probably be the one that sets the record straight for history.
Looking for something different to do on a summer evening? American-style soccer is beginning to gain the attention of sports-lovers.
Soccer is a fast-paced game, with few breaks in the action and constant movement. The Columbus Crew was founded in 1994 as of one of the 10 inaugural clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS) and has enjoyed success in recent years.
Get get online for Columbus Crew tickets and get your family together for an exciting night out all summer long.
A Columbus Crew game is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. The Crew has won five major trophies: MLS Cup 2008, the 2004, 2008 and 2009 Supporters’ Shields, and the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Crew won the 2002Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy by a score of 1 to 0 at Columbus Crew Stadium.
On May 15, 1999 the Crew opened Columbus Crew Stadium, the first stadium built specifically for soccer in Major League Soccer, as the Crew beat the New England Revolution 2-0 before a sold-out crowd of 24,741. The stadium was built with simplicity in mind because it was the first of its kind in the United States and so it was done completely from scratch. It has been the model stadium for the rest of the league and one of the stadiums used by the United States national team in World Cup qualifying.
During the 2008 season, the Crew worked together as a team and joined in the race for first place in the standings of the MLS regular season. Barros Schelotto had a terrific season in 2008 by winning the MLS MVP award while also leading the Crew to once again win the Supporter’s Shield in 2008 before winning MLS Cup 2008, beating the New York Red Bulls 3-1 and assisting on all three goals, as well as getting the MLS Cup MVP award. Defender Chad Marshall also won the MLS Defender of the Year award.
The team stayed mostly with the same group of guys in 2010, but added Sergio Herrera and Leandre Griffit along with its draft picks from the previous draft. The Crew also extended the contract for Barros Schelotto. The Crew then signed forward Andres Mendoza about halfway through the season.
The Crew made it all the way to the final in the Open Cup but failed to win against the Seattle Sounders. The Crew didn’t repeat as supporters’ shield winners, but still made the playoffs as the second seed in the Eastern Conference. The Black and Gold lost to the Colorado Rapids in the away game of the series 1-0 but then came home and won the home game 2-1 which led to a 2-2 tie on aggregate goals.
The playoffs ended for the Crew when they lost in penalty kicks when Brian Carroll’s kick sailed high over the crossbar.
Anticipation is growing in Columbus, as 2011 looks to be an exciting season for the Columbus Crew as they get on track to win the MLS Cup. You can find cheap Columbus Crew tickets online at many ticket brokers nationwide.
“Playoffs? Don’t talk about playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?” chastised Indianapolis Colts’ coach Jim Mora in 2001 after his team lost to the San Francisco 49ers and dropped to a 4–6 record.
For some fans, playoffs are a reminder of their team’s failures, but for others, the playoffs are a chance for fame. The NBA Playoffs are no different. NBA fans can buy cheap NBA playoff tickets at their favorite ticket broker’s web site; many times, NBA playoffs tickets are at a discount. Every year, at approximately the middle of April, fans of all ages come to see the best of the best play.
The National Basketball Association’s process for determining which teams make it into the playoffs is straightforward. When the season concludes, the top eight teams from each conference, the West and the East, advance to the playoffs. Then each team is “seeded” one through eight based on their regular season records. The one-seed team will play the eighth-seed team, the second-seed team will play the seventh-seed team, and so on. Each contest will be determined by a best-of-seven tournament of elimination. The first team to win four games advances to the next round while the losers are eliminated.
Throughout the history of the NBA, the playoffs have been a triumph for some teams and a mark of shame for others.
For some teams, making the playoffs seems like a yearly calendar event. The San Antonio Spurs have made it to the playoffs for 13 straight seasons, and the Dallas Mavericks have secured a spot in the playoffs for 10 straight years.
For a while, some joked that you could have set your watch to the Portland Trail Blazers making the playoffs. They held the longest playoff appearance streak by making it to the playoffs for 21 consecutive years.
For other teams, simply making the playoffs was not enough. With a series-record of 17-4, the Boston Celtics have won the NBA Finals more than any other team. However, the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs are the only teams to have a perfect-Finals record (6-0 and 4-0, respectively). Although the eighth-seed New York Knicks of 1999 were the lowest seed team to ever reach the Finals, the sixth-seed Houston Rockets of 1994-1995 were the lowest seed team to ever win the Finals. In fact, only three eighth-seed teams (the 1994 Denver Nuggets, the 1999 New York Knicks, and the 2007 Golden State Warriors) have ever won a series against a one-seed team. If the magnitude of the NBA playoffs aren’t enough for you and your sports-enthused friends, we recommend getting NBA Finals tickets for sale. Many believe that no basketball event is more special, and ticket holders are sure to have the time of their life!
This year, as always, the NBA Playoffs are expected to be entertaining and intense. The most talented basketball teams in the world will compete against each other for the trophy—and for the glory. Sixteen teams will go big or go home. The NBA Playoffs should prove to be an exhilarating thing to see first hand!
UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and number one contender Gray Maynard will try and settle the score at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, May 28th 2011. The two will get five championship rounds to prove to the world they are the top 155-pound mixed martial arts fighter.
The first fight between Edgar and Maynard resulted in a unanimous win for Maynard. They also met earlier in the year at UFC125: Resolution where the fight ended in a draw and Edgar kept his belt. They have battled for a total of eight rounds and nothing has been resolved.
“I’m excited for our third fight and to have a definite winner,” Edgar said. “I want to go out there and prove that I am the best lightweight in the world. I feel honored to be a part of a trilogy like this. Like the Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture trilogy, I hope this is something fight fans remember for years. Our last two fights went to decision and I would love a finish this time so there are no doubts.”
Discount UFC tickets are still available. Maynard was on an amazing eight-fight win streak before the draw against Edgar, Maynard, fighting out of Las Vegas, NV. hopes to keep his undefeated record alive and become the UFC lightweight champion. The former three-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Michigan State has parlayed his success on the mat and has transitioned nicely into the Octagon. With wins over Edgar, Kenny Florian, Jim Miller, Dennis Siver and Roger Huerta, Maynard has proven that he can compete and beat the best.
“I’m very excited to fight Frank Edgar again at UFC 130,” Maynard said. “This is my chance to prove once and for all that I’m the best lightweight in the world. You’ll see me the most prepared and focused I’ve ever been. Nothing will keep me from holding the UFC lightweight belt on May 28th.”
The other fights on the card include Quinton “Rampage” Jackson taking on Matt “The Hammer” Hamill, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir meets Roy “Big Country” Nelson, rising star Stefan Struve is pitted against Travis Browne, and “All-American” Brian Stann mixes it up with returning middleweight contender Jorge Santiago.
There are still UFC MGM Garden Arena tickets available online at many ticket brokers.
UFC President said, “The last time Gray and Frankie fought, they put on one of the best fights of the year. This is the third and last time these two will come together and the stakes have never been higher.”
